Trekking to Nong Fa Lake

Nong Fa Lake is said to be a sacred place in Laos in the heart of the national park, one possible explanation is that it was created by a volcanic eruption thousands of years ago. Trekking to this lake was definitely an adventure to remote parts of the Ho Chi Minh trail along valley peaks we reached the lake on the fourth day and after about 90 km it was worth it when we the beauty of the lake saw and enjoyed a cool dip in Nice, one of the most remote places on earth.

Not from the West, to his knowledge had never tried to make a trip to the lake than the approach of most Mode 4-wheel drive, but the plan was a trip in and out with different routes and route studies for possible future travel. Questions leads us to Attapeu army to the local guide who spoke the local language at home, was born in a small village about two days to walk from the lake, but his family, all moved to the city now. After a meeting with him and discuss how we and colleagues prepared two hikers controlled facilities we need, and began the stocks we bought soups, canned fish and rice, and of course chocolate and sweets to buy much-needed energy boast.

The first days go hiking in the mountains over rough terrain past small villages and ethnic communities, we drove 20 km along the old route Laos military training, unaware at the beginning how difficult it would be our backpack. Our guide knew the local language, well, speak English, so my skills definitely came in handy Laos. We arrived in the village of Ban Chilinxay evening, after showering in the vicinity of the creek, we spent the night in the hut of a villager, who spoke surprisingly little English.

We bought a chicken from him and he cooked for us, along with steamed rice and local vegetables and soup trying to get my energy back and relax our legs as much as possible. The second and third day followed a similar pattern until dawn, with a hot chocolate, buying fresh eggs and vegetables from the villagers and trekking about 20-25 km per day, the nights spent with a local guide home-stay organization, strengthening and swimming.

Upon arrival in Vang Etat about fourteen hours, I could not believe I went through 3 liters now “water, so I refilled my water bottles with boiled water to the villagers and the kind we have decided to move to what it was fourteen hours, and if pushed, we can reach Nong Fa Lake, another 2 hours or so.
It was not long after about 20 minutes, we managed to lift logging truck with Vietnamese back to Attapeu lunchtime. Overall, a wonderful and unforgettable journey.
